### 🔓 Why is Freedom Important?

In many parts of the world today, we enjoy freedom to speak, to move, to choose without giving it a second thought. However this has not always been the case and still is a reality for some people today.

Throughout history, freedom has been a treasured ideal that people have fought and suffered to obtain.

But what exactly is the concept of freedom and why does it matter so much? And what would the world/our lives look like without it?

This Thursday at IQ Cafe we will explore:

• The different kinds of freedom and the role they play in the human experience.
• What it means to be free?
• And why the concept of freedom matters and what the effect of not having freedom is on the world.

IQ Cafe is a space for thoughtful, respectful dialogue. Whether you love deep questions, care about justice, or want to explore the meaning of freedom for yourself... You are welcome here.

🕒 Schedule:
8:00-8:20 - Listen to a bilingual lecture on the night's topic while enjoying snacks and coffee
8:20-9:00 - Discussion in small groups
Afterwards - Stick around and hang out with new friends!

We think it's a shame how many people go through life without reflecting on things that matter. It’s important to take the time to think about the difficult questions in life. It can be easy to live your life and just go through the motions.

The presentations at IQ Cafe are always bilingual because we want you to be able to practice Japanese and English! For the discussion time, there are tables with English and Japanese available. Let's practice language together!

現代の私たちは、話すこと、移動すること、選ぶことの自由を、
あたりまえのように享受しています。

しかし、これは歴史的に見ても、また現在でも、
すべての人に当てはまる現実ではありません。

「自由」は、長い歴史の中で多くの人々が求め、
闘い、苦しみながら手にしようとしてきた尊い理想でした。

では、「自由」とは一体何なのでしょうか？
そして、なぜそれほどまでに重要なのでしょうか？
もし自由がなかったら、私たちの世界や人生はどのようなものになるのでしょうか？

今週木曜日のIQ Cafeでは、以下のテーマについて一緒に考えます：

• 様々な種類の自由と、それが人間の経験において果たす役割
• 「自由である」とはどういう状態なのか？
• 自由という概念がなぜ重要なのか、そしてそれが失われたとき、世界にどんな影響があるのか？

IQ Cafeは、思慮深く、互いを尊重する対話の場です。
深い問いが好きな方、正義や人間の尊厳に関心がある方、
「自由」の意味を自分なりに探求してみたい方——どなたでも歓迎します。
