🌍 Are Humans Innately Good?

Are people naturally good at heart, or is goodness something we have to learn?

Many philosophers, scientists, and everyday people believe that deep down, humans are wired for kindness and compassion. But when we look at history, wars, corruption, and everyday conflict, it raises a hard question: if we’re naturally good, why does so much evil exist in the world?

This week at IQ Cafe, we’ll introduce this topic from different angles, philosophy, history, and faith, and then provide a space for you to share your own opinions.

🕒 Schedule:
8:00-8:20 - Listen to a bilingual lecture on the night's topic while enjoying snacks and coffee
8:20-9:00 - Discussion in small groups
Afterwards - Stick around and hang out with new friends!

What is IQ Cafe?
IQ Cafe is a place that wants to create a space for you to think deeply.
We think it's a shame how many people go through life without reflecting on things that matter. It’s important to take the time to think about the difficult questions in life. It can be easy to live your life and just go through the motions.

The presentations at IQ Cafe are always bilingual because we want you to be able to practice Japanese and English! For the discussion time, there are tables with English and Japanese available. Let's practice language together!

人は心の奥底で本来善なのか、それとも「善」は学ばなければならないものなのでしょうか？

多くの哲学者、科学者、そして一般の人々は、人間は生まれつき優しさや思いやりを持っていると信じています。 しかし歴史を振り返ると、戦争や腐敗、日常の対立などが絶えず起こってきました。もし人間が本来善であるなら、なぜこれほど多くの悪が存在するのでしょうか？

今週の IQ Cafe では、このテーマを哲学・歴史・信仰などさまざまな角度から紹介し、皆さんが自分の意見を自由にシェアできる場を用意します。
