Is a Strong Sense of Cultural Identity Beneficial?
Every one of us belongs to a culture. That culture has been shaped by our families, our nation, and our traditions. Our connection to our culture helps us to feel grounded but is there a point where our cultural identity becomes detrimental?
Culture is both a gift and a challenge. It is something to cherish, but also something to examine.
This week at IQ Cafe, we’ll explore how different worldviews and religions understand cultural identity, belonging, and the role they play in shaping who we are. After a short introduction, you’ll have a chance to share your own perspectives and experiences in small discussion groups.

🕒 Schedule:
8:00-8:20 - Listen to a bilingual lecture on the night's topic while enjoying snacks and coffee
8:20-9:00 - Discussion in small groups
Afterwards - Stick around and hang out with new friends!

What is IQ Cafe?
IQ Cafe is a place that wants to create a space for you to think deeply.
We think it's a shame how many people go through life without reflecting on things that matter. It’s important to take the time to think about the difficult questions in life. It can be easy to live your life and just go through the motions.

The presentations at IQ Cafe are always bilingual because we want you to be able to practice Japanese and English! For the discussion time, there are tables with English and Japanese available. Let's practice language together!

We have Bilingual events every Thursday night at 8pm in Harajuku! We look forward to seeing you there!

強い文化的アイデンティティは良いこと？
私たちは皆、何らかの文化に属しています。
その文化は、家族、国、そして伝統によって形づくられてきました。
文化とのつながりは、私たちに安心感や土台を与えてくれますが、文化的アイデンティティが強すぎることで逆にマイナスになることもあるのでしょうか？

文化は「贈り物」であると同時に「課題」でもあります。
大切にすべきものですが、時には問い直す必要もあります。

今週のIQカフェでは、さまざまな世界観や宗教が文化的アイデンティティや帰属意識、そしてそれらが私たちの人格形成にどのような役割を果たしているのかを探っていきます。短いイントロの後、小グループに分かれて、それぞれの視点や経験をシェアする時間があります。
