Workshop on Shakespeare’s Meter! Why it’s brilliant, fun, and important

Details

This is 10:30 a.m. MOUNTAIN TIME (like Denver)

Do you think you appreciate Shakespeare’s brilliance? Take a closer look at the specific metrical form (iambic pentameter) that Shakespeare uses and your amazement will grow. We’ll learn how Shakespeare uses meter to tell a Reader about emotion, what’s important, pronunciation, as an aid in memorization, and we’ll learn to appreciate the music of the sound.

The workshop also showcases Shakespeare’s use of other forms of meter for specific purposes, plus we’ll look at the use and importance of rhyme, prose, and the sonnet form. Participants will regularly break into small groups (Zoom rooms) to scan and discuss passages and to collaboratively write some metered verse.

This is a two-part workshop: Sunday June 19 and Sunday June 26.
It is not recommended that a participant attend Session 2 without first attending Session 1.

FEE is $25, which covers BOTH sessions and handouts.
Click the red "ATTEND ONLINE" button below to pay by PayPal, where you can use either your PayPal account OR your own credit card.

THE ZOOM LINK APPEARS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THIS PAGE AFTER YOU RSVP! Don't forget, because that is how you will attend the workshop! :-)

Workshop is led by Robin Williams, Ph.D.
Handouts will be emailed to participants ahead of time.
