Explore Trails of Eno River State Park - Eastern Side
Let's hike the Eastern side of Eno River State Park. After a brief stop at the Cole Mill Picnic Shelter (with facilities) we will then proceed to the Rivermont Road parking area. The hike will start on a section of the MST that runs along the Eno River. We will head ENE toward Guess Road. At this point we will turn around and head WSW toward Pleasant Green. Finally we will return to the parking area along the same trail. The full hike could be between 12 and 15 miles. The total length of the hike may depend on the level of heat and humidity. Bring plenty of water, snacks, insect repellent and sunscreen to make the hike safe. Trail conditions are unknown as this is a new trail for the club.

Car pools meet at Newtowne Plaza parking lot (same plaza as JR's Cigars). Car pools share gasoline expenses upon return.

What we're about

We are a group of hikers from Iredell County and surrounding counties who enjoy day hikes in the mountains of North Carolina and some locations in Virginia, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Although the club only does day hikes, some members of the club backpack on the AT and MST. Some members have hiked Kilimanjaro and several treks in Europe. During 2016, members participated in day-hikes that totaled 688 miles in 81 hikes (average hike length: 8.49 miles).

The Hikers of Iredell Club was founded in 2008 by Dee and Barbee Ham of Statesville NC. In May of that year, a club web site was created (see below for URL). We extended our online presence to Facebook and Meetup in 2014.

This club seeks to combine comradery, vistas, flora, and exercise. Hikes are usually moderate-to-strenuous but some are very challenging and some are easy. We may trek 6 miles, or as many as 14 miles to reach destinations that might be out of reach of beginner hikers. We often maintain a 2 mph pace to ensure we return home before dark. You may be tired on your first hike, but, with practice, you will be at the front of the group and stopping to smell the roses while you wait on the others to catch up.

We car-pool to the trailheads and share the gasoline expenses. We also have a club picnic in the Spring and a Christmas get-together at a local restaurant. The club pays for the picnic hamburgers and hot dogs and misc items. We also have Internet webpage expenses and Meetup site expenses. For such items and other club expenses, we must collect dues - $24 initiation and $10 yearly thereafter. However, we waive the dues for the first two hikes.

We look forward to seeing you on the trail!
