About us
iRest is a non-religious meditation practice developed by a clinical psychologist at Walter Reed Medical Center for treating soldiers with PTSD. Research has shown that it helps alongside other forms of treatment to reduce anxiety, depression, PTSD, and can help to improve sleep, and help you deal with chronic pain and daily stress.
This practice is offered for free with a suggested community donation of $7 or more per participant (but pay what you can), with proceeds going directly to Community Crisis Services and Food Bank.
If you have your own yoga mat, blanket, and any other props to be comfortable, please bring them, but if not we have quite a few on hand at the studio for attendees. The practice involves sitting, standing or lying in a guided meditation with eyes open or closed (you choose position that's most comfortable for you) for 35-45 minutes. We'll spend some time going over what the practice entails in advance and checking in with everyone after.
