Loony Paddlers (women) paddle the S Fork of the Flambeau River

Details
This Wednesday, the paddle will be on the South Fork of the Flambeau River, from Shady Knoll Road to the National Forest Recreation Area just below Smith Rapids and the covered bridge. WEATHER PERMITTING. Karen Teliszczak will be leading this. Participants will meet at the Shady Knoll bridge at 9:30 am. The paddle is about 5 miles and there are 5 stretches of rapids, Class l and ll. The carpool from Mercer will meet at Faith Lutheran CHurch on Kichak Landing Rd, across Cty J from the Mercer School, at 8:45 am. To reach the put-in from Mercer, take Hwy 51 south about 3 miles and turn right onto Hwy 47/182. Drive 3.8 miles, then turn right to stay on Hwy 182, Drive 16 miles, then turn left onto Shady Knoll Road, Forest Road 144. You will get to the river in 5 miles. Once you've unloaded your gear, drivers will continue south a short distance to Forest Road 147 and turn right. This road will be mostly gravel. Then take a sharp right onto Smith Rapids Road, FR 148, drive about 1/2 mile and turn left into the campground, which is your paddle destination. Put your Senior Pass on your dashboard. Take a close look at the river here, so you will recognize it when you come under the covered bridge. The water is moving fast here, so you will be coming in hot! This is a fun run, so fingers crossed that the front passes before Wednesday morning and it isn't rained out.
