East Pond Hike

Details

Last year Tahawas Trails completed building a bridge over one of the beaver flooded tributaries of the Big Otter Lake South Inlet and clearing the trail to East Pond. This trail is unique in that the Ha-Deh-Ron-Dah Wilderness Management Plan permits trail clearing only once every five years and this serves the purpose of keeping it wild.
We will hike from the Hershoff Road trailhead using the Big Otter Lake truck trail and pick up the East Pond trail as our route to East Pond. On our way we will check out and cross the new bridge. As we continue along we will pass by Little Simon Pond before reaching East Pond. Time permitting, we will extend the hike to Blackfoot Pond.
Round trip to East Pond is 7 miles. Blackfoot Pond adds another 1.8 miles round trip.
The hike is considered moderate in difficulty due to distance.
