First Irreverent Get Together in Salt Lake!

I had no idea how popular Irreverent Weekenders would be. We already have nearly 250 members! It’s time we meet, and start planning our first few weekends! That will be our format – meetings after work to get to know each other and plan trips, and then as many weekend trips as we can plan from those meetings.

Our first get together will be Monday, July 22. Let's meet at my business at 6pm, Park City Culinary Institute (in Salt Lake City), 1484 South State Street, Salt Lake City. You can park on State Street, or any of the side streets.

Bring whatever you want to drink, and I’ll also have beer and wine for us. If people want to hang out after 8pm, we will move next door to Piper Down. Head upstairs to the roof unless it’s raining.

Here are the first trips we are going to plan:
Flaming Gorge, Friday Aug 2 - Sunday Aug 4
Bear Lake, Friday Aug 9 - Sunday Aug 11
Lake Powell, Friday Aug 16 - Sunday Aug 18 (plus a few days?)

Here’s what you need to prepare for Monday's Get Together:

1. Camper/Glamper: Do you own a tent and sleeping bag or do you prefer to stay in hotels? I think we can find places where part of the group is camping and part of the group is staying at an AirBnB or hotel. Then during each trip, we set times and places to meet for hikes, sitting on the beach near the water, renting boats and waterskiing/wakeboarding, and having meals together. At night, we are with our roommates. So use our planning meetings to get to know each other and find people you want to bunk with.
   I will have a sign-up list at the planning meeting asking if you’re a camper or a hoteler.*

2. Where do you want to go? I’ve got some ideas for where I want to take our group to go, but I’m still a city slicker. It’s only been 7 years since I left the cement sidewalks and subways of New York City, and I only know a fraction of what’s possible 2-3 hours from Salt Lake and Park City. If you’re an expert on places to go around here, or if you’ve been hearing about a place you want to go – but haven’t been yet, bring that information to our planning meeting.
   The sign-up sheet I pass around at the Get Together will let you propose places you want our group to go.

3. Drivers: Some people like to drive and others hate to drive. We are going to get into groups at our meeting based on where we live, so you can get to know people to carpool with on our trips.
   **The sign-up sheet will let you identify yourself as a driver for people who need a ride.

If you can’t make the Get Together Monday 7/22, I will send out an email afterwards updating the group on what we decided to do.
