Al Ghazali – Letter to a Disciple

Dear all,

Building upon our book discussions in 2025, we will continue our meetings in 2026 with a dedicated bookclub focusing on Islamic philosophy and Sufism in dialogue with contemporary Muslim, Western, and global thought.

Muslims as well as non-Muslims are equally welcome.

We will begin in January with a short text by Al-Ghazali, one of the most influential scholars in the history of Islamic thought, who is also known for his critical engagement with philosophy. With Letter to a Disciple / Ayyuha l-walad, we have chosen an accessible text that lends itself well to a shared introductory reading.

Aufbauend auf unseren Buchdiskussionen im Jahr 2025 werden wir unsere Treffen 2026 mit einem eigenen Buchclub fortsetzen, der sich auf islamische Philosophie und Sufismus im Austausch mit zeitgenössischem muslimischem, westlichem und globalem Denken konzentriert.

Muslime sowie Nicht-Muslime sind gleichermassen willkommen.

Wir beginnen im Januar mit einem kurzen Text von Al-Ghazali, einem der einflussreichsten Gelehrten der islamischen Geistesgeschichte, der auch für seine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Philosophie bekannt ist. Mit dem Buch Brief an den Jünger / Ayyuha l-walad wählen wir einen gut zugänglichen Text, der sich als gemeinsame Einstiegslektüre eignet.
