We will be welcoming Tim Berglund, VP of Developer Relations at StarTree, who is traveling all the way from the US to join us. Tim will illuminate the key concepts of real-time analytics, its significance, its evolution, and how Apache Pinot is setting new benchmarks in this space. Apache Pinot is more than just an OLAP database. It has been engineered to facilitate user-facing features at incredible speed and high levels of concurrency, which are becoming integral components of the modern systems we're designing and building.

Analytics is arguably the oldest task of digital computers, and has remained an important part of business computing during its 80-year history. What could possibly be new in this space? A better way to serialize data? A better way to run distributed queries over a data lake? An exciting new integration technology? We need all these things urgently, but to be ready for the future, we something even more: we need analytics that can deliver results to users in real time, in the interaction layer, not to internal decision makers seconds or minutes later. We need what Apache Pinot delivers.
In this talk, we'll look at how Pinot is built, how to get data into it, how to query it, and the typical role it plays in a next-generation system exposing analytics-powered features to its users. Join StarTree slack

Tim is a teacher, author, and technology leader with StarTree, where he serves as the VP of Developer Relations. He is a regular speaker at conferences and a presence on YouTube explaining complex technology topics in an accessible way. He tweets as @tlberglund, blogs every few years at http://timberglund.com, and lives in Littleton, CO, USA. He has three grown children and two grandchildren, with a third on the way.

19:30-20:00 Realtime Analytics in Action with Apache Pinot >> Yoav Nordmann, Tech Lead & Architect @Tikal

So you heard about realtime analytics but you have never really seen it in action. You heard a lot about Apache Pinot and realtime ingestion, but you wish someone would showcase the scenario for you. And all that on top of Kubernetes. So this is for you.
I will run a demo cluster on Kubernetes, create a realtime data analytics stream and show you how I will ingest it into Apache Pinot. We will then see how we can view the data in realtime, and even add some anomaly detection using Startree’s anomaly detection platform: ThirdEye. In the end I will invite you to participate in generating and adding more data using your own laptop, and together we can see this whole system at work.
