The Italian Learners Book Club: Il romanzo "Le tre del mattino" - Reading #2

Join us as we read the evocative Italian novel 'Le tre del mattino' by Gianrico Carofiglio from start to finish. Set over two transformative nights in Marseille, the story follows a father and his estranged teenage son who are forced to stay awake together for forty-eight hours, leading to an unexpected journey of reconciliation, hidden secrets, and mutual discovery.

These sessions are designed for Italian language learners at an intermediate proficiency level (B2). You do not need to purchase the book - we will share a digital copy on-screen during the meeting. We will gather in small breakout rooms, where each participant will read a short section of the text in Italian. We will help each other with comprehension, pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar.

About "Le tre del mattino"

Antonio and his estranged father, Roberto, travel to Marseille for a medical evaluation regarding Antonio’s epilepsy. To complete a crucial test, they must remain awake for two consecutive days and nights. This forced vigil pushes them out of their comfort zones and into the vibrant, gritty streets of the city. As exhaustion blurs their defences, years of silence and resentment give way to an intimate, life-changing conversation that finally bridges the gap between them.

Antonio e suo padre Roberto, con cui ha un rapporto difficile, si recano a Marsiglia per un controllo medico riguardante l'epilessia di Antonio. Per completare un test fondamentale, devono rimanere svegli per due giorni e due notti consecutive. Questa veglia forzata li spinge fuori dalla loro zona di comfort e nelle strade vivaci e crude della città. Mentre la stanchezza riduce le distanze, anni di silenzio e risentimento lasciano il posto a una conversazione intima che cambia le loro vite, unendo finalmente padre e figlio.
