The Venice Carnival began in 1162; the purpose of the masks was and remains to protect their identity and remove any social differences. Masks are not compulsory but it would be nice to see everyone wearing a mask of their choice at Broadbeach Tavern, which is located on the beach end of the Oasis Shopping Ctr.
