Darren’s Meetup: Free Travel Town Museum Visit & Picnic in Griffith Park, LA

Join me on Sunday, October 19th, for the second part of our group outing, right after our visit to Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn!

Both Carolwood Barn and Travel Town Museum are located near Zoo Drive in Griffith Park, and admission is free on this day. Travel Town is just a short walk from Carolwood Barn, making it easy to visit both in one outing.

After exploring the museum, we’ll have a small and casual group picnic for those who’d like to join. Please don’t forget to pack and bring your own lunch and water. This will not be a potluck — everyone should plan to bring their own meal and refreshments. There are plenty of picnic spots and shaded areas available in the park where we can relax, eat, and socialize together.

About Travel Town Museum:

Founded in 1952, Travel Town was created to preserve historic railroad equipment and educate the public about the role of trains in developing the American West. The museum began when the City of Los Angeles acquired several retired locomotives and train cars and placed them in Griffith Park for public display.

Over the years, Travel Town has grown to include:

• Historic steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, and cabooses
• Indoor exhibits on railroading history and engineering
• A miniature train ride for children and families

Today, Travel Town Museum is a hands-on, family-friendly museum where visitors can explore real trains up close, take guided tours, and learn about the importance of railroads in Los Angeles and the western United States.

• Other beverages of your choice
• Optional: blanket or mat for sitting outdoors

FYI: This is not a group potluck. If you’d like to stay for a picnic, please bring your own lunch and water. Make sure you can provide for yourself and have something to eat. Everyone is expected to be self-sufficient. Thank you!
