Join us for a great hike in the Hacienda Hills area with some nice green hills and great views. It's a very interesting hike and parts of the hike feels like walking through a jungle.
(Event is cross posted)

DIFFICULTY: MODERATE +
This is not a beginner hike due to the distance and the amount of elevation gain. We also need to keep a good pace in order to finish the hike in a reasonable amount of time and some parts of the trail is somewhat steep. You need to be fairly well conditioned.

THE PLAN:
We'll park right next to the Orange Grove Middle School on S. 7th Ave. and meet at the Hacienda Hills Trailhead at the end of the street.
Please be there before 9 AM and we will start the hike shortly thereafter. We will follow some great trails and most of them will have good shade. The terrain on top of the hills is very exposed though. A couple of sections of trail is somewhat overgrown, so I recommend wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Bring some food/snacks and we'll stop and have a brief lunch/snack break at some point. We'll essentially do a couple of big loops.

DISTANCE & ELEVATION GAIN:
I don't know the exact numbers here unfortunately, but I estimate the hike to be about 14.5 km / 9 miles and about 650 m / 2,130 ft or so total elevation gain.

ESTIMATED TIME REQUIRED:
About 4.5 hours or so including breaks

PARKING:
There should be plenty of free parking along S. 7th Ave. next to the Orange Grove Middle School as it is a very long parking lot. It's just a very short walk to the trailhead at the end of the street from there. There are also 4 parking spots right next to the trailhead but most likely occupied.
If you would like to carpool just let people know in the comment section.

WHAT TO BRING/CONSIDER:

  • Smaller backpack for day use
  • Hiking boots or trail running shoes
  • Long pants and long sleeve shirt (recommend)
  • Hydration system (best) or bottles with water or Gatorade etc. At least a couple of liters
  • Sun screen
  • Sun glasses
  • Some food/snacks for lunch
  • Cell phone
  • Hat
  • Consider bug spray

NO SHOWS:
It is inconsiderate to the organizer, participants, and other members to RSVP and not show up, therefore I am registering no-shows. For this event you need to change your RSVP to "No" minimum 1 hour before the start of the event. If you have multiple no-shows on your record, you will be considered unreliable may not be admitted to certain events and we certainly will not wait for you. If something happens on your way, so you can't make it, please call or text the organizer.
