📜 WHY PORTAGE PARK?
Named for the ancient portage route connecting the Des Plaines and Chicago Rivers, Portage Park has long been a crossroads of transportation, cultures, and community.

Annexed to Chicago in 1889, the neighborhood expanded rapidly in the early 20th century as streetcar lines made the Northwest Side increasingly accessible to working- and middle-class families.

Today, Portage Park is known for its beautifully preserved brick bungalows, historic theatres, commercial corridors, parks, and strong neighborhood identity. 🏡🌳

The neighborhood is also home to several iconic landmarks, including the Portage Park Pool, which hosted the 1959 Pan-American Games and the 1972 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, as well as the Portage Theater, Patio Theater, Six Corners, and Merrimac Park.

One of Portage Park’s greatest treasures is its collection of classic Chicago bungalows.
