Join IxDA Indy at 5:30pm on Thursday, April 8th for two lightning presentations from Interaction 21, Q&A, and breakout discussions. The conference theme was 'Design in Perilous Times' which covers the perils in our world today, what led us to this place, inspiring solutions to dramatically change our path forward, and themes of anger, accountability, and action.

Our first presenter, Erin Malone, has over 25 years of experience leading experience design teams and designing websites, mobile applications, social experiences, and system-wide components and best practices. Malone is currently principal at Experience Matters Design, a UX consulting firm specializing in designing systems, complex internal tools, and social interfaces, as well as providing research and creating products that matter to under-serviced populations. Malone is currently consulting with the ADL's Center for Technology and Society working on projects to explain, reveal, mitigate and prevent online hate in online social and game platforms. Malone is the co-author, of the book Designing Social Interfaces 2nd and 1st editions, published by O’Reilly Media, and the Chair of the Interaction Design BFA Program at California College of the Arts. In spare time, Malone is a fine art photographer and letterpress printer. Malone lives with a dog and 2 black cats who inspired the name of Malone's letterpress company—8 Paw Press.

Malone's presentation is titled, "Desconstructing Online Hate".

Our second presenter, Sanchit Soni, is a Senior UX Designer at 8x8 Inc. 8x8 specializes in providing communication platforms to businesses of all sizes. Previously, Soni has worked with non-profits engaging in environment conservation which led Soni to think deeply about the environment, carbon footprint, and climate change. Over the last 5 years, Soni has been thinking about ways to establish a relationship between UX practices and their impacts on climate change.

Soni's presentation is titled, "Carbon-Conscious Design".
