Trip Difficulty: Easy (Beginner to Advanced Skills)

We're heading back to an IYAK favorite, Brookville Lake, about 1.5 hours east of Indy.

The moon will be nearly full. The moonrise is at 5:30pm and the sunsets at 8:30pm. This means we should have enough light to paddle if it's not cloudy. Make sure you bring a flashlight or headlamp and feel free to add additional lighting to your boat. We'll paddle around the lake for a few hours then head in. There is always plenty of wildlife to see, including beavers, turtles and birds. Bring food as we will stop for a brief dinner along the shore.

We will meet at the Hanna Creek boat ramp at 6:00pm and we will be on the water at 6:30pm. We'll paddle past sunset and catch the moonrise before we head back to the boat ramp. Here is the map link for the launch site: https://goo.gl/maps/MuKBKFUJSFN2eguJA.

Carpool/Caravan: If you want to carpool or caravan to the launch site meet at Focus Therapeutic Massage, 8711 Southeastern Ave., Indianapolis at 4:00pm. We will leave by 4:15pm.

Rentals: For Kayak rentals call Paul at 317-319-7107. Single seat kayaks are $50 for this event. The price includes boat, PFD, paddle and delivery to the launch site.

Suggested items to bring: Wide brimmed hat, sun block, hand sanitizer, sunglasses, large sponge, bilge pump or container to bail out water, water, snacks, towel, change of clothes, water shoes, paddling gloves, rain gear, bug spray, safety whistle, camera, flashlight/headlamp, a sense of adventure, and a good dose of humor. For clothing try to use something other than cotton, especially if the weather is cool. Polypropylene or polyester are good choices since neither holds water and they wick moisture away from you.

IYAK rules require you to wear a PFD while on the water.

* Due to paddling at night, you MUST have some form of light on you or your boat for this trip. The law requires one bright white light that is visible for two miles.
* This event is on IN-DNR property, so regulations require your boat to have a Non-Motorized Boat Permit decal. They are available at park entrances or you can purchase one online or at the downtown Indy office for $5.

Event hosts reserve the right to cancel due to inclement weather. Any cancellation or adjustment to the schedule will be posted in this event's message thread.
