Trial Saturday Session 1

Details

This a trial session to get feedback on how to prepare for bigger sessions in the future.

Entrance is free, as well as the first drink (beer or soda). Slots are limited though. RSVP to reserve your slot.

Registered attendees must be at the venue by 7 PM. Early birds can start singing in Room 4 at 6:30.

We will be accepting walk-ins but they will have to wait until 7:30PM - if by that time some attendees haven't arrived yet and we haven't received a message that they are on the way (see below on how to contact us), we'll give their slots to the present wait-listed participants then if there are still slots, to the walk-in participants.

We've rented 2 rooms. We'll use one room first then split the group into 2 once we fill it up.

Rules

We won't be strict with the rules since this is just a trial session. Just to cover our bases, however, we'll have to list down a couple:

•You must select Japanese songs, or songs related to Japanese media and internet/otaku culture. A good example is "Fly Me to the Moon" - an English song popularized by Frank Sinatra but is also associated with Evangelion.

• Obscure songs are fine, but we recommend going for more popular songs so that more people can sing along. That said, please don't hog the mic/remote and give others a chance to sing and pick songs.

• Have fun! Be nice and make friends! Learn new songs and artists! This isn't a singing contest; go ahead and make silly renditions of songs!

Tips

• List down the songs you want to sing beforehand.

You can search what is available by going to dncenter.ikaraoke.kr (http://dncenter.ikaraoke.kr/) and searching for the song and making sure it was added to the list earlier than June 2015. Note that some songs are missing even though they are in the database, possibly due to a software bug or licensing issues. For example, Moonlight Densetsu.

You can also use Karaokepedia (http://karaoke.karaniwan.org) and search through its partial database of Kumyoung songs. You can also request for songs/artists/series (http://karaoke.karaniwan.org/request_info).

• Store the lyrics of those songs in your phone/tablet. (Karaoke lyrics are displayed on screen in furigana, not romaji)

Apart from being ready for the possibility of getting poor 3G signal on your phone, preparing the lyrics before the event allows you to check if those lyrics are correct.

I would suggest using a note taking app like Evernote, but crude solutions (like emailing yourself lyrics) can be just as effective.

• Bring a power bank so you can keep reading lyrics/taking pictures/videos all night.
