We head to the tropical part of WNC. Apparently, the road is now repaired and the trail mostly cleared out. Our route includes waterfalls, cascades, and rushing water. There will be a few manageable water crossings. We will climb down the rope ladder to the middle of the narrows. Optionally, a side trip to the bottom of the narrows would add a mile (and some time). ...If you sign up and change your mind even if on waitlist, change your RSVP to "not attending" to free up your reservation. Any rain cancellation will be posted by 7:30am. The weather forecast is better down there, however, than it is for parts west, north, or east.

PACE: All fitness hikes have a brisk steady pace (~3 mi/hr), adjusting for trail conditions, and regrouping as needed. These hikes are specifically for conditioned hikers. Please be sure of your hiking ability before signing on.

CAR POOL: Those who wish to car pool can meet at Westgate Plaza, directly across the lot from Earth Fare, near the EV chargers, at 9:15am. Please tell the hike leader where you intend to meet the group: Westgate (9:15) or Pulliam Creek Trailhead (10:00).

DIRECTIONS to TRAILHEAD (10:00am): From Asheville, travel south (ah hem, "east") on I-26 past Hendersonville to the Flat Rock area. Get off the interstate at Exit 53 and turn left (east) onto Upward Road. Stay on Upward Road for 1.7mi. passing apple orchards. Just past the Upward Holiness Baptist Church turn right onto Big Hungry Road. Stay on Big Hungry Road for 4.5 miles but be alert and follow the signs for Big Hungry. (At times, continuation on Big Hungry looks more like a turn off the main road.) Photo is of the trailhead.

Those who need to finish earlier can skip the rope climb extension down to the narrows and probably shave off 40 minutes.

Dogs are welcome, but have a leash handy in case we run into other hikers or dogs.
