Let's Paint Out at the Georgetown Art Stroll Festival!
The Williamson County Art Guild is hosting a paint out for the Art Stroll festival, and they have invited us to participate! I hope to see you there!
Half a Second or Less
April 17, 2026 - May 09, 2026
From the Visual Arts Center:
"Half a Second or Less brings together the work of seven graduating studio MFA students who are shaped by change, attention, and duration. Across photography, painting, print, and sculpture, this exhibition traces how we register time, belief, intimacy, and history.
Rosalyn Jewel Farney creates images through experimental drawing and printmaking processes that explore the possibilities of light and iteration. Working with mixed-media sculptures and drawings, Maya Gauvin’s work operates at the threshold of botanical, mineral, and planetary scales, staging moments of suspended time. Spanning family archives, self-portraiture, and acts of care, Edward Gia maps diasporic memory and intergenerational longing shaped by his Ecuadorian Mexican American identity. In his atmospheric paintings, Morgan Grigsby examines land, light, and history in relation to Black Southern experience and the transformation of the Gulf Coastal Plains. By exploring the poetics of acoustics through sound, sculpture, and architectural form, Jo Kim examines how bodies experience space through resonance and gesture. Tiffany Katarina Smith investigates memory as mediated by digital technologies, translating family photographs through processes that foreground distortion, decay, and reappearance. By examining intimacy, belief, and Queer presence in the American South, Nolan Zunk transforms everyday objects into sites of ritual and care through portraiture and installation.
Together, these artists present practices that engage light, sound, memory, material, and place as evolving conditions rather than fixed forms. The exhibition invites viewers into a brief interval of heightened perception where light flickers, sound resonates, materials shift, and meaning remains in motion.
Half a Second or Less is organized by 2025–26 VAC Education Fellow, Mary Alice Smith, and 2024–26 VAC Curatorial Fellow, Maysa Martins."

FRIDAY - Conditioning Hike - 6:30am and 7:15am - River Place Nature Trail
NOTE: This is a special Friday edition of our normal Saturday event. I have plans on Saturday but didn't want to miss the workout.
Caution: This is an advanced and strenuous hike. We try to keep a quick pace to make this a challenging workout. Known as "Nature's Stairmaster", this strenuous hike is not recommended for beginners. There are 2763 steps with 1800 feet of elevation change - in each direction!
You're welcome to join us at 6:30am, at 7:15am, or for both hikes depending on your fitness level. Afterwards, you're more than welcome to join us at Rudy's on 620 for breakfast tacos. We usually have 10-15 people show up for this hike. Hope to see you there!
6:30am - 2 miles (40 minutes) This is the hardest part of the trail which makes it great for conditioning. We will be starting at the Canyon Trail trailhead, hiking to Noggin' Knocker, and back. You will need a head lamp!
7:15am - 5.5 miles (2hrs)
We will be starting at the Canyon Trail trailhead, hiking to the Fern Trail Trailhead, taking a 5-10 minute break, and then hiking back to where we started.
IMPORTANT NOTE: On weekends, they charge a $10 fee per hiker (and $10 per dog) starting around 7:15am to hike this trail. If you're showing up for the 7:15am hike, be a little early and wait by the trail kiosk, or prepared to pay the fee. If you're already on the trail when they start collecting, they don't make you pay.
What to bring with you: Lots of water (preferably with electrolytes) and a good pair of hiking or trail running shoes. If it's wet, or you're new to this trail, trekking poles can be a big help.
How to find us: We will be standing near the trailhead kiosk at the Canyon Trail trailhead entrance.
NOTE: There are no restrooms or water at this trailhead. (There are bathrooms nearby at HEB or at 8820 Big View Dr, Austin, TX 78730)
Don't forget that our Austin Mountaineers store is now open if you would like to order something. 100% of the proceeds from the store go back into prizes and gifts for our group events.

**Cancellation policy:** If you will not be able to make the hike, please be polite and change your RSVP to "not going" so that we don't wait for you at the trailhead.
