Music Meetup and Open Mic at Freeside Atlanta
Music Meetup and Open Mic at Freeside Atlanta
**Welcome to [Freeside!](freesideatlanta.org)** Whether you're a seasoned musician with a thing for local scenes, or a fledgling ukulele player trying to get on a stage for the first time, you'll find a microphone waiting for you at the Music Meetup and Open Mic at Freeside Atlanta. Our open mic works a little different. To stretch those musical muscles, we start off the evening with a new activity each month at 7:30 and then proceed to a traditional open mic at 8:30. After the open mic, we open the stage up for a free jam that lasts until the last person leaves the room. **Schedule** * 7:00 PM - Doors * 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM - Activity and Sign-up * 8:30 to 10:30 - Open Mic Freeside is a member run space, completely dependent on the hard work and dedication of its members and volunteers. While the event is free, we have a suggested donation of 5-10 dollars in order to keep the event going and to improve the space for future events! All proceeds go into improving the space so more amazing people can rock this stage. **While we do not serve alcohol, the event is BYOB so feel free to bring your own drinks.**

Meditation for World Peace at Grant Park Gazebo
Meditation for World Peace at Grant Park Gazebo
**Join your community to meditate for world peace in the beautiful Grant Park.** In Buddhist practice, peace begins within—through non-violence, loving-kindness, and mindfulness. The calm and compassion we cultivate in our hearts ripple outward to our families, communities, and the wider world. This gathering is inspired by a beautiful tradition in Thailand, where school children across the country sit together in meditation for peace—young minds choosing silence and young hearts choosing calm. Their example reminds us that even a few minutes of shared stillness can create powerful positive energy. We are honored to have **[Phra Ajarn Maha Dam Phommasan](https://www.facebook.com/mahadamphommasan)**, abbot of Wat Lao Buddha Khanti in Snellville, join us. He recently participated in the Walk for Peace, a multi-state pilgrimage where monks walked about 2,300 miles to raise awareness for peace, compassion, and mindfulness. Local venerable monastics from temples across Georgia will join the cause to add to the collective blessing of the gathering. **Approximate Schedule** • 9:00–9:30 AM — Arrival • 9:30–10:00 AM — Metta Prayer (Pali) & Meditation • 10:00–10:30 AM — Walking Meditation • 10:30–11:15 AM — Q&A with monastics • 11:30 AM — Lunch offerings for monastics • 12 PM onward — Community conversation *(subject to change, weather permitting)* Near the Grant Park Pool Everyone is welcome—families, children, and people of all ages. Stay as long as you like, bring a mat, have a picnic, and spend time connecting with the community and monastics. **[REGISTER HERE APPRECIATED s](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeu2ODuSFJSsrSVolOC92n9YQOoR_JoQFsEE5vWjQWudFP72Q/viewform)o we know about how many people are coming** **Etiquette when greeting monastics:** In many Buddhist cultures, it is customary to **keep a respectful distance and greet monastics with a gentle bow** as a sign of respect. If you are new, feel free to simply observe and follow along.
