Talk:
Spinning up Kafka version 3 with KRaft

Abstract:
Before Kafka version 3 was released, Kafka was deployed with Zookeeper to maintain Kafka metadata. With the release of Kafka 3 Apache Kafka has released Kafka Raft or KRaft for short as a replacement for Zookeeper to maintain its metadata. Finally, with Kafka version 3.3 KRaft is marked ready for production. Moreover, with the release of Apache Kafka 3.5, Zookeeper is now marked deprecated and will be removed on Kafka version 4.With the deprecation of the zookeeper, the Newer Kafka cluster would most likely use KRaft to keep the Kafka version up to date and minimize future architecture changes with zookeeper-KRaft migration. In this talk, I would like to share our experience spinning up a new Kafka cluster with KRaft and explain some notable differences between Kafka Zookeeper and Kafka KRaft.

Bio:
Theodore Gautama Chandra or Theo works as a system engineer on Goto Financial, specifically on the Stateful Components Team that manages Stateful Components such as Postgres, Redis and Kafka. Theo specifically works on Kafka and setting up a new Kafka environment for the whole GoTo Financial ecosystem. Previously Theo worked as a devops engineer in the midtrans team where he handled midtrans systems infrastructure.
