July 18, 8 am: Clean Gravestone of Dr. Foushee and others
Details
We'll clean the gravestone of Dr. William Foushee and others at Shockoe Hill Cemetery.
Leaders from the group Friends of Shockoe Hill Cemetery will be there to supervise and assist. This Meetup can handle 20 volunteers as there are many additional gravestones that will benefit.
Bring face masks and rubber gloves. Optional useful things to bring if you have them are natural bristle brushes, step ladders, small garden sprayers, and 5 gallon buckets for carrying water.
Cleaning product called D/2, a non-toxic fungicide that is pH neutral and does no harm to stones, will be provided.
James River Hikers created, funded and installed a history sign at the grist mill Dr. Foushee built in 1819 and is now located on the Texas Beach Trail. Here's a related article.

The link below provides more information about the cemetery and includes this statement:
"Shockoe Hill Cemetery is the final resting place of many famous people. These include Revolutionary War hero Peter Francisco, Chief Justice John Marshall, and Union Spy Elizabeth Van Lew to name a few. Intermingled with them are the elite, the working class, and the poor."
