Details
Today's 3.6 mile hike will begin and end in the Floodwall Visitor Parking Lot located across Hull Street from the Richmond Railroad Museum near 1st Street. We will follow the South Floodwall west to the Manchester Bridge, admire the cityscape from the Manchester Overlook, and cross the river on the Potterfield Bridge. We'll take a break on Brown's Island, pass through the Murals Gallery and follow the Canal Walk to the Mayo Bridge. Once back on the south side of the river we'll continue east on the Floodwall to its terminus at I-95. Manchester Road will bring us back to the starting point.
It will be about time for brunch when we finish and Cafe Zata is just up the street. That's my plan anyhow!
- Anticipated Weather on Hike Day
- Hikes begin at the posted time, not five or ten minutes later. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you won't get left behind. If you need help on directions click on the location map found under "How to Find Us". When you select "Directions" (upper left) the best route from your current location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated for you.
- Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.
- There are rudimentary restroom facilities on Brown's Island.
- Look for the Meet Up sign in a car window.
- This is a hike of approximately 3.6 miles over improved surfaces, trails, and stairways. Participants should be able to maintain a pace of twenty-five minutes per mile and negotiate stairways.
- Police Non-Emergency Number 804-646-5100
