Nov 12, 10 AM ~ Jefferson Park to Rockett's Landing Hike

Details

We plan to pack a lot of sights and sounds into this 3.5 mile hike. The good news is this is strictly an urban hike. There is no requirement to be able to ford a stream, or possess the ability to recognize toxic plants, negotiate rocks, roots, fallen trees, damp trail conditions, stairs, steep ascents, vines, low hanging branches, culverts, uncertain footing on hills, reptiles, spider webs, scorpions, birds of prey, or migratory waterfowl.

Meet at the Jefferson Park Fountain and take a morning hike of approximately 3.5 miles through the streets of Church Hill and East Main Street. From Jefferson Park we'll follow Jefferson Ave to Sub Rosa Bakery, then follow 25th Street to St John's Church. Broad Street and 28th will take us to Libby Hill Park where we will leave Church Hill for East Main Street. When we reach Rockett's Landing we'll reverse course and follow the Virginia Capital Trail along the river to Great Shiplock Park. Shortly we'll turn on 21st Street, climb the stairs to Richmond Hill, take in the view from the Grace Street Overlook and follow 22nd Street back to Jefferson Park. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us.
If you don't have a clue about the location of Jefferson Park, click on the link to "Jefferson Park" located just above "How to Find Us" in the event description. An interactive map will be displayed and when "Directions" (upper left) is selected the best route from your current location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated for you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.

Participants should be able to maintain a pace of 2.5 miles per hour. On street parking is available but allow enough time to locate a space. On street parking is available adjacent to the park on Princess Anne Ave, N 21st Street, E Clay St, and on E Leigh St. This is a very dog friendly hike.
