This 3.2 mile hike will begin at the Forest Hill Park Main Parking lot on 42nd Street at Shelter #1. We'll take the stairs down to the lake then follow Reedy Creek to the Buttermilk Trail. Buttermilk will take us past the somewhat famous Buttermilk Spring to the 22nd Street stairs. We'll pick up the Reedy Creek Trail here and follow it back to Park Headquarters, then continue west on the access road to the 42nd Street stairs. Up the stairs and a couple of urban blocks later we're back where we started.
This is a hike of approximately 3.2 miles over woodland trails, paved surfaces, parks and stairways. Participants should be able to maintain a pace of two and one half miles per hour and possess the ability to recognize toxic plants, negotiate rocks, roots, vines, low hanging branches, subterranean passages, uncertain footing on hills, spider webs, scorpions, deer, birds of prey and stairways.
Hikes begin at the posted time, not five or ten minutes later. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us. If you need help on directions, click on the map in "How to find us" to display a larger interactive map. When you select "Directions" (upper left) the best route from your location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated for you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.
After the hike interested hikers have the option of joining the Organizer at O'Toole's for refreshments and a meal or snack.
