Get some exercise and help a Houlagans’ Rest rescue dog! Our dogs love hiking the under 2 mile trail in Powhatan State Park, followed by a little one on one time with their hiker.

This hike is a little different from other JRHH hikes. You must complete a Houlagans’ Rest volunteer application prior to the hike. If you are walking, you must complete the application, but ONLY the person walking a dog should RSVP here.

The minimum age for a handler is 16. Younger children may accompany an adult and share in the fun of playing with the dogs. Please ONLY RSVP for the number of people who want to hike a dog. Other guests are welcome, but the RSVP list is used to get a dog count.

POWHATAN State Park (http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/powhatan.shtml#general_information), in the northwest corner of Powhatan County on the historic James River! Meet at the first set of shelters/playground on the right. The park has a $5 parking fee.

The official address is 4616 Powhatan State Park Road. We meet at the first set of shelters/playground on the right. Please, PLEASE check the location in Google, before you leave. A lot of people get lost, when they depend on their GPS.
