Feb 18, 10 AM ~ Shields Lake to VCU
Details
This is anticipated to be a 3.5 mile urban hike. No stream crossings, rock hopping, toxic plants, roots, fallen trees, damp trail conditions, stairs, steep ascents, vines, low hanging branches, culverts, uncertain footing on hills, reptiles, spider webs, or scorpions. None.
Meet at the parking area on Shields Lake Dr. (just north of the Maymont Nature Center) and take a leisurely hike through part of Byrd Park and the Fan neighborhood. We'll follow Meadow to Main and continue on to the VCU campus. Harrison will take us to Colorado and eventually we'll turn for home on Blair Street which will take us back to our starting point at Shields Lake.
If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location and parking availability, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us.
If you don't have a clue about the location of Shields Lake, click on the link located just above "How to Find Us" in the event description. An interactive map will be displayed and when "Directions" (left) is selected the best route from your current location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated for you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.
Participants should be able to maintain a pace of 2.5 miles per hour. The parking area we will use is readily identifiable and you should have no trouble locating it. You have probably passed it many times. This is a dog friendly hike.
