Jun 28, 9 AM ~ Broad Street - Carver Murals Hike
Details
- Weather Conditions on Hike Day
- Today we will hike along Broad Street and some of its side streets and gaze at some of the many murals that adorn what would otherwise be undecorated building walls. This 4.9 mile excursion will begin at the Children's Museum of Virginia on Broad Street. From there we will meander West to Roseneath through Scott's Addition, then East on Broad Street, admiring the many murals we will find in some of the most unusual places.
As we near Belvidere we'll see Crash Dummies, a Civil War Drummer Boy, a Girl With Phone, Bernie and who knows what else!
For More information on the murals as well as their locations click here!
Our return route will take us west again along Broad Street and even more murals, including but not limited to the Alice in Wonderland Caterpillar, a Samurai Couple, and a Rippled Floating Woman, until we are back at our starting point at the Science Museum.
All hikes will begin at the posted time, not five or ten minutes later. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us. Make it easy on yourself, click on the small map in the event description under "How to find us". When you select "Directions" (upper left) the best route from your location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated for you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.
There is no requirement to possess advanced ability to negotiate tree roots, rustic trails, low hanging vines and branches, toxic plants, culverts, reptiles, damp trail conditions, stairs, spider webs, fallen trees, scorpions, birds of prey, migratory waterfowl, and river rocks today as this hike will be entirely on paved streets and sidewalks. Beware of uneven pavement and curbs, however.
