FEB 1, Time TBT - Walk for Peace
Details
In November of 2025, a group of venerable Therevada Buddhist monks embarked on a 2300 mile "Walk for Peace" from Ft Worth Texas to Washington DC. Their walk from Petersburg to Richmond VA is scheduled to take place on Day 99, February 1st, giving us an opportunity to witness this event first hand and to show solidarity for this noble cause.
Purpose: This event is scheduled to provide an opportunity to respectfully greet the monks with the possibility to quietly file in behind them, joining them on a small part of their journey with an intention of peace.
Important: Please plan to respect the cultural perspective of the monks as you partake in this event. Understand that this walk is a meditation of joy and a solumn dedication for peace. The monks lead quiet, humble lives. They appreciate our smiles, waves or a traditional greeting with hands together and a bow. Please do not shout or attempt to make physical contact.
Details: Please note that the route (and hence our meeting point) will not be posted until the day of the event and the timing will be approximate.
What to Expect: Expect to spend time in the elements; bring fluid and dress accordingly. Respect the road safety and abide by the wishes of any police escort. Plan for anything. At one stop 10,000 people joined the monks!
On some days the monks have chosen to speak with the public at lunch. I will post whatever information is available on the day of the event. You may follow "Walk fo Peace" on Facebook for more information or to make a donation.
From the monks: "The Walk For Peace was created with a simple and sincere purpose: to cultivate peace through compassion, loving-kindness, and mindfulness, and to bring peace to individuals, communities, our country, and the world."
"Our focus remains on walking together in harmony, sowing seeds of understanding, and allowing peace to arise organically—wherever conditions are wholesome and ready."
