May 3, 10 AM ~ Huguenot Flatwater to the Pony Pasture Hike
Details
- Anticipated weather on hike day
- We'll start this 4.8 mile hike from the South end of the Huguenot Bridge at the Huguenot Flatwater parking area and follow riverside trails to the dreaded Rattlesnake Creek, continuing on Riverside Drive to the Pony Pasture. At the Pony Pasture we'll take a brief stop to gawk at the river before looping around this iconic area. Then we'll return to the starting point by the same route. This is an opportunity to see the river up close as the trails we follow and Riverside Drive are right on the river.
This will be a hike over paved walkways, city streets, bridges and rustic riverside paths. Some ability to negotiate tree roots, rustic trails, low hanging vines, insects, birds of prey, toxic plants, reptiles, damp trail conditions, migratory waterfowl and dense foliage is required.
his is a hike over improved, paved surfaces for the most part, but some rock hopping, root and stone dodging and giving a wide berth to toxic plants (Don't touch anything green!) will be required! Hikes begin at the posted time, not five or ten minutes later. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us. If you need help with directions, click on the inset map in the event description under "How to find us" to display a larger interactive map. When you select "Directions" (upper left) the best route from your location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking. While your event host is providing a framework for your Meet Up hiking experience, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being.
