  • Weather on Hike Day
  • This hike through Carytown gives us the opportunity to admire some of the many murals that adorn what would otherwise be undecorated building walls. This 3.3 mile excursion will begin at the intersection of Floyd Avenue and North Lombardy Street. Easy to locate, No? From there we will meander down a corridor formed by West Cary and West Main and gawk at the wide variety of public art work on display there. We will explore murals on Belmont, Sheppard, Robinson, Stafford, Lombardy and Plum as well.

The variety of subjects and styles is abundant and we will see Mickey Mouse, a relaxing Woman, a Mind Blown Guy, a Woman in Blue and a Black and White Wolf, as well as many others. There are thirty-five murals along this route so bring your camera or phone!

This hike will begin at the posted time, not five or ten minutes later. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us. Parking in this area can be tricky so give yourself time to locate a curbside spot and hoof it on over to the Meet Up location. Best chances are to hunt in a four square block around the Meet Up location. Click on the inset map found under "How to find us" in the Event Description to display a larger interactive map. When you select "Directions" (screen left) the best route from your location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated for you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.

There is no requirement to possess some ability to negotiate tree roots, rustic trails, low hanging vines and branches, toxic plants, culverts, reptiles, damp trail conditions, stairs, spider webs, fallen trees, scorpions, birds of prey, migratory waterfowl, and river rocks today as this hike will be entirely on paved streets and sidewalks. You should prepare to beware of uneven pavement and the occasional out of place brick, however.
