Hike Mount Rishiri (利尻山) – Hokkaido’s Island Peak!

Trip Overview:

Join me for a full-day hike up Mount Rishiri (1,721m) — one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains (百名山), located on a remote island off the coast of Hokkaido. This is a scenic, challenging day hike offering panoramic ocean views and a unique alpine experience.

🗓️ Schedule:
• Aug 7 (Thu): Arrive in Sapporo
• Aug 8 (Fri): Travel to Wakkanai, ferry to Rishiri Island
• Aug 9 (Sat): Hike Mount Rishiri (early start)
• Aug 10 (Sun): Return to Sapporo

🚗 Transportation:

I’ve already booked a bus to Wakkanai, but if a few people are interested, I can rent a car and drive up together. Let me know!

• Trail: Out-and-back route
• Distance/Elevation Gain: Approx. 15km / 1,700m gain
• Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced (long ascent, no scrambling)
• Estimated Time: 8–10 hours round trip
• Start Time: Around sunrise (exact time TBA)
