Welcome to the Lynnwood Game Night Event, hosted by Japan Seattle ABC Network!
This event is part of our cultural programming focused on building meaningful connections between Japan and Seattle through Academics, Business, and Culture (ABC).
This event is designed for:

  • English speakers learning Japanese
  • Japanese speakers learning English
  • Mixed cultural exchange
  • Socialization with fellow language learners
  • Board and Card game enthusiasts

Whether you are here to practice language, learn about culture, or meet new people, we’re happy to have you join us.

## EVENT PURPOSE & FORMAT

This is a casual, semi-structured event. The primary goals are:

  • Practicing language through Japanese board and card games
  • Encouraging cross-cultural exchange
  • Creating a respectful, inclusive community space

Feel free to bring study materials or discussion topics if relevant.
Basic knowledge of hiragana and/or basic Japanese vocabulary is HIGHLY recommended.

## EVENT STRUCTURE / AGENDA

The structure of this event may be adjusted based on group size and needs. A sample flow is below:

  • 6PM – Arrival, free talk, settling in
  • 6:15 PM – Break out into tables based on game or level & self introduction in small groups. (variable based on participant demographic)
  • 7:45 PM- Clean up and → prepare to move to restaurant (let host know if you would like a ride)
  • 8:00 PM - Game portion of the Event officially concludes by this time. Optional dinner at a nearby restaurant if participant interest.
  • ~9:00 PM - Variable end time. People like to hang out and chat at the restaurant, so feel free to check out with the host at any time.

Hosts may guide seating, groupings, or language use to ensure a balanced experience for all participants.

## PARTICIPATION & LANGUAGE GUIDELINES

To protect the experience for everyone:

  • Please use the designated language during language-specific segments
  • Be mindful to share speaking time and avoid dominating conversations
  • Support beginners and be patient with different skill levels
  • Follow host guidance regarding seating, rotations, or activities

These guidelines help ensure the event remains a mutual exchange, not a one-sided experience.

## REGISTRATION & ATTENDANCE POLICY (REQUIRED)

Due to space and session-quality considerations:

  • Only registered participants and those on the official waitlist may attend
  • Please do not attend if you are not registered or waitlisted
  • Walk-ins or unregistered attendees may be asked to leave

This policy exists to protect the participant experience. Thank you for your understanding.

## CODE OF CONDUCT & COMMUNITY STANDARDS

All participants are expected to follow the Japan Seattle ABC Network Participant Code of Conduct.
In short:

  • Treat others with respect and cultural sensitivity
  • Respect personal boundaries and differences in communication styles
  • Avoid behavior that makes others uncomfortable

Hosts are empowered to address issues and may ask participants to leave if necessary to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
