Welcome to the Bellevue Japanese English Language Exchange at Meydenbauer Bay Park, hosted by Japan Seattle ABC Network! This event is part of our cultural programming focused on building meaningful connections between Japan and Seattle through Academics, Business, and Culture (ABC).
This event is designed for:
Japanese learners and English learners, and all skill levels are welcome. However, having basic conversational skills in your language of study is recommended.
Whether you are here to practice language, learn about culture, or meet new people, we're happy to have you join us.

### EVENT PURPOSE & FORMAT

This is a semi-structured event. The primary goals are:

  • Practicing language through real conversation
  • Encouraging cross-cultural exchange
  • Creating a respectful, inclusive community space
    Feel free to bring study materials or discussion topics if relevant. There is no strict minimum skill level required, but basic conversational ability in your target language is recommended unless otherwise noted.

### EVENT STRUCTURE / AGENDA

The structure of this event may be adjusted based on group size and needs. A sample flow is below:

6:00PM - Free Talk: 25 min
6:25PM - Japanese: 20 min
6:45PM - English: 10 min
Change Seats
7:00PM - Japanese: 20 min
7:20PM - English: 10 min
7:30PM - Japanese: 30 min
8:00PM - End of Event

Hosts may guide seating, groupings, or language use to ensure a balanced experience for all participants.

### PARTICIPATION & LANGUAGE GUIDELINES

To protect the experience for everyone:

  • Please use the designated language during language-specific segments
  • Be mindful to share speaking time and avoid dominating conversations
  • Support beginners and be patient with different skill levels
  • Follow host guidance regarding seating, rotations, or activities
    These guidelines help ensure the event remains a mutual exchange, not a one-sided experience.

### REGISTRATION & ATTENDANCE POLICY (REQUIRED)

Due to space and session-quality considerations:

  • Only registered participants and those on the official waitlist may attend
  • Please do not attend if you are not registered or waitlisted
  • Walk-ins or unregistered attendees may be asked to leave
    This policy exists to protect the participant experience. Thank you for your understanding.

### CODE OF CONDUCT & COMMUNITY STANDARDS

All participants are expected to follow the Japan Seattle ABC Network Participant Code of Conduct. In short:

  • Treat others with respect and cultural sensitivity
  • Respect personal boundaries and differences in communication styles
  • Avoid behavior that makes others uncomfortable
    Hosts are empowered to address issues and may ask participants to leave if necessary to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
