This event is part of our cultural programming focused on building meaningful connections between Japan and Seattle through Academics, Business, and Culture (ABC).
This meetup is designed for:

• English speakers learning Japanese
• Japanese speakers learning English

Whether you’re here to practice your target language, learn about culture, or make new friends, we’re happy to have you join us.

## EVENT PURPOSE & FORMAT

This is a casual, conversation-focused study event. The primary goals are:

• Practicing Japanese and English through real conversation
• Encouraging mutual language exchange
• Creating a welcoming, respectful community space

Feel free to bring any study materials if you’d like.
There is no minimum skill level required; however, at least conversational ability in your target language is recommended in order to fully participate.

## EVENT STRUCTURE / AGENDA

The structure of the event is flexible and may be adjusted depending on group size and needs. A typical flow looks like this:

• 6:30 – Arrival, free talk, settling in
• 7:00 – 20 minutes Japanese-only
• 7:20 – 20 minutes English-only
• Rotate seats
• 7:40 – 20 minutes Japanese-only
• 8:00 – 20 minutes English-only
• Rotate seats
• 8:20 – 20 minutes Japanese-only
• 8:40 – 20 minutes English-only
• 9:00 – Event ends

Hosts may guide seating, rotations, or language use to ensure a balanced and enjoyable experience for all participants.

## PARTICIPATION & LANGUAGE GUIDELINES

To protect the experience for everyone:

• Please use the designated language during each language segment
• Be mindful to share speaking time and avoid dominating conversations
• Support beginners and be patient with different skill levels
• Follow host guidance regarding seating and rotations

This event is intended to be a mutual exchange, not a one-sided lesson.

## REGISTRATION, ATTENDANCE & SKILL BALANCING POLICY

Due to space limitations and a recent increase in beginner participants, it has become more challenging to balance conversation levels during the event.
To maintain a high-quality experience for everyone:

• Participation on a first-come, first-served basis is limited to the first 5 registered participants
• After that, the host will manually approve participants from the waitlist in order to keep language skill levels balanced
• Only registered participants and those approved from the waitlist may attend
• Please do not attend if you are not registered or approved; walk-ins may be asked to leave

These policies exist to protect the participant experience and ensure meaningful language exchange. Thank you for your understanding.

## CODE OF CONDUCT & COMMUNITY STANDARDS

All participants are expected to treat fellow attendees with respect and cultural sensitivity.
If any behavior makes others feel uncomfortable or violates community standards, a host may ask the participant to leave the event.
Please remember: English and Japanese speakers may have different communication styles and cultural expectations. Kindness, patience, and courtesy are essential to a positive exchange.

本イベントは、Japan Seattle ABC Network が運営する文化交流プログラムの一環として、日本とシアトルを Academics（学び）・Business（専門性）・Culture（文化） の3つの柱を通じてつなぐことを目的としています。
このミートアップは、

• 日本語を学んでいる英語話者の方
• 英語を学んでいる日本語話者の方

を対象とした、日英相互の語学交流イベントです。
語学練習はもちろん、新しい出会いや交流の場としてもお気軽にご参加ください。

## イベントの目的・形式について

本イベントはカジュアルな会話中心の語学交流イベントです。
主な目的は以下の通りです：

• 実際の会話を通じた日本語・英語の練習
• 相互的な言語・文化交流
• 誰もが安心して参加できるコミュニティづくり

教材やノートなどをお持ちいただいても構いません。
最低参加レベルの制限はありませんが、ご自身の学習言語で簡単な会話ができる程度のスキルがあると、より楽しんでご参加いただけます。

## イベントの流れ（サンプル）

当日の人数やバランスに応じて内容は調整される場合がありますが、基本的な流れは以下の通りです。

• 18:30 – 集合・フリートーク
• 19:00 – 日本語のみ（20分）
• 19:20 – 英語のみ（20分）
• 席替え
• 19:40 – 日本語のみ（20分）
• 20:00 – 英語のみ（20分）
• 席替え
• 20:20 – 日本語のみ（20分）
• 20:40 – 英語のみ（20分）
• 21:00 – 終了

必要に応じて、ホストが席替えやグループ分け、使用言語の案内を行います。

## 参加時のお願い（言語・交流ルール）

すべての方が気持ちよく参加できるよう、以下にご協力ください。

• 各セッションでは指定された言語を使用してください
• 会話を独占せず、発言の機会を譲り合いましょう
• 初心者の方にも配慮し、間違いを温かく受け止めましょう
• 席替えや進行についてはホストの案内に従ってください

本イベントは相互的な語学交流の場であり、一方的なレッスンではありません。

## 参加登録・定員・スキルバランスについて（重要）

最近、初心者の参加者が増えており、会話レベルのバランス調整が難しくなってきています。
そのため、参加体験の質を保つ目的で、以下の運用を行います。

• 先着5名までを「参加確定」とします
• それ以降の方はウェイトリストとなります
• ウェイトリストの方は、言語レベルのバランスを考慮したうえで、ホストが手動で承認します
• 事前に登録・承認されていない方の参加はできません
• 未登録・未承認の方は、当日参加をお断りする場合があります

皆さまにとって有意義な交流の場を守るためのルールです。ご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

## 行動規範・マナーについて

参加者の皆さまには、互いに敬意をもって接していただくことをお願いしています。

• 他の参加者を不快にさせる行為
• 不適切・迷惑な言動

が見られた場合、ホストの判断により参加をご遠慮いただくことがあります。
日本語話者・英語話者では、言語だけでなく文化的な価値観やコミュニケーションスタイルも異なります。
思いやりと配慮をもってご参加ください。
