Learn about Japanese etiquette to prepare for your trip around Japan with this 20-minute sharing + 20-minute discussions in West Shinjuku. Understand key rules and manners in a public space that many tourists are not aware of.
Feel relaxed and comfortable as you go shopping, eat out, use transportations, visit temples, and more without worrying about offending anyone.
Gain insight into the Japanese way of life with a talk on topics such as trash bins, bringing food into a cafe or restaurant, taking pictures and videos, taking off your shoes, talking loudly, wearing hats and caps, standing at temple ceremonies, and crossing your legs.
The venue is a simple conference room in West Shinjuku within a 15-minute walk from various lines of Shinjuku station. It can be easily accessed on foot if you are staying around Shinjuku.
If there are no questions, the host's talk will wrap up in 20 minutes. You can either leave and start your day, or stay to discuss with her and other travelers for more questions.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Manami was born and raised in Monzennakacho in East Tokyo. She acquired a Ph.D. in cultural heritage protection with a focus on tourism management in 2018 from the University of Tsukuba.
During her study, Manami spent 1 year in Germany and half a year as an intern at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Switzerland. Currently, she works for a Japanese IT firm with a multi-national team as her day job.
She has been organizing guided tours, origami workshops etc. for foreign tourists for over 3 years.
Thanks to her academic and business background as well as hosting career, she has become familiar with issues around Japanese etiquette and tourists.
