Tampa Asian "Field Trip" - Daiso - Sweet Buns - Teastori - MD Oriental
Details
I thought it would be nice to do a tour of some fun places in Tampa, especially food-focused. If you would like to wear kimono, please do. Not everyone feels comfortable wearing them all day. Please check the weather the day before, as well.
You can drop in and drop out as you like. That way, if you get tired, have other obligations, whatever, you don't have to stay with anyone the entire day.
We could simply meet up at one place and could contact the rest of the group for ETA on the next place (unless we're already all together.) Every place on the list has parking for at least five vehicles without any issue.
Please consider bringing a 'cold bag' or two for anything you might buy from the bakery or the frozen sections.
With those from outside of Tampa in mind:
11 AM:
I'd like to start with Daiso by Northdale Whole Foods.
15702 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33618 - Daiso
Daiso has a selection of Japanese low-cost stuff like fun paper, stationery, household goods, hobby items, a kitchen section and more.
12:30 PM:
TeaStori or Sweet Buns Bakery, which are in the same plaza as Winn-Dixie. Where do you want to go first?
2788 E Fowler Ave, Tampa, FL 33612 - Sweet Buns
Sweet Buns is your fancy Asian bakery like you might see in anime or your favourite shows. Cream cakes, buns, and much more, in a big open shop.
2732 E Fowler Ave, Tampa, FL 33612 - TeaStori
TeaStori has boba drinks but my favourite thing to get there is the dairy-free mochi ice cream, which often comes in flavours you will never find in stores.
2 PM (or earlier, if you like!:)
By now, you might be thinking OMG LUNCH.
yeah me too. There are a few options around, including Vietnamese, Chinese, poke 'fusion' + noodle bars. My favourite is Tokyo Sushi, which is further than TeaStori. It is on 56th + Fowler.
5711 E Fowler Ave, Temple Terrace, FL 33617 - Tokyo Sushi
If you prefer vegetarian only options, Kaleisia Tea is somewhat close on 15th and Fletcher, which is nearer MD Oriental and 275. They also have a wide selection of teas, fruity drinks, matcha smoothies, and more.
We can talk together and figure out lunch!
Tampa has SO MANY great locally-owned restaurants, you can go to a new one every single day and not run out for a year!
4 PM ish:
After that, it's already been a long day and some people have to drive over an hour to get home. But not everyone has an oriental market nearby.
If you would like to stop by MD Oriental, it is near 15th + Fowler, which is also a few blocks from the 275 highway.
1106 E Fowler Ave, Tampa, FL 33612 - MD Oriental Market Tampa
MD Oriental + Bakery recently expanded to be HUGE inside! As big as the Brandon location! Half the store is now endless frozen meals and a massive kitchen + restaurant supply section! o.o
I also chose MD Oriental as the last stop because it's near 275. If you have frozen food, it does not have to wait forever in the car.
