Japanese Calligraphy Workshop – April Theme: “Sakura & Uguisu”

April’s theme is “Sakura & Uguisu”, celebrating two iconic symbols of Japanese spring.

You may already know that sakura (cherry blossoms) hold a special place in Japanese culture. They appear in everyday life—from school emblems to even the Japanese passport design. In many ways, Japanese people are truly captivated by sakura. During April, these delicate white and pink blossoms bloom across the country, transforming the landscape into something quite magical.

Alongside sakura, we have the uguisu (Japanese bush warbler), a bird often regarded as the herald of spring.
Its distinctive and gentle song marks the transition from winter to spring and brings a sense of calm and serenity.

In this workshop, you will:
* Practise writing “sakura” and “uguisu” using traditional brushes
* Create a simple sumi-e (Japanese ink painting) of a sakura branch and an uguisu
* Add a creative touch with sakura-themed decorations

Create your own artwork inspired by sakura and uguisu themes. Perfect for beginners and anyone curious about Japanese culture.
