But do you know how and by whom they are kept in such a beautiful condition?

Actually, craftsmen in only one craft studio work for it in Kyoto including Arashiyama district.
An American artist collaborates with the unique bamboo craftsmen in this event.

Why is our experience so unique?
①Our organizer is an Amarican whose name is Zane. He is very familiar with Japanese culture especially Zen Buddhism, so that foreign participants can enjoy important instructions from Japanese craftsmen without language barriers.
②Our events are not for Instagram but for immersing the essence of Japanese culture while touching Japanese professional technics with each craftsmen.
③Our network with craftsmen is not easy to get. Even Japanese people don't have opportunity to reach such special craftsmen. But you can meet them through our events.

Meeting with bamboo craftsmen who work for all of bamboo in Kyoto
We will arrive at the bamboo forests where craftsmen work.
And the organizer will explain how they keep bamboo forests so beautiful and why they need to do it.
It is the bamboo craftsmen that work for keeping bamboo forests in all of Kyoto clean like Arashiyama district. We know bamboo forests, but almost don’t know how they are kept for tourists and local residents. It is thanks to their work.

Entering into bamboo forests to maintain & cut bamboo
You will learn how to maintain bamboo forests and start the actual experience of bamboo cutting.
First, you will learn how to use the specific tools to cut them by the craftsmen.
The tool is also unique, whose style is used only in Kyoto.
Then, you will start to cut some bamboo according to their instructions.
You can bring bamboo to move on to the next workshop.

Creating your original chopsticks from bamboo which you cut
Bamboo is very strong, so chopsticks made from bamboo should keep for a long time in your life. You can find a lot of workshops to create your own chopsticks in Japan, but you can’t find such an opportunity to create chopsticks with bamboo you cut because craftsmen who can cut bamboo to arrange the environment are the only ones in Kyoto.
