The Experience from the Hell to the Heaven at Senkoji temple in Osaka

Details

Senkoji temple in Osaka is the most famous temple for "The Hell Temple" all over the world. Lots of tourists visit this temple to learn what the Hell is in Zen Buddhism.

But we did't have instructions for them until now, so we have started the experience to understand the Hell of Zen Buddhism deeply with the Monk, Mr Kawaguchi and an American artist, Mr Zane.

Mr. Zane, a passionate American who has lived in Japan for over 10 years, loves Japanese culture deeply. While working as an English teacher and designer, he also plans and conducts unique Japanese cultural experience events primarily in the Kansai region.
Events where participants experience Japanese culture based on Buddhist teachings from an American perspective have garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally.

This time, Mr. Zane collaborates with Senkoji Temple, which has long been pioneering innovative community development initiatives locally and has known well about what Buddhism Zen is.

13:00 PM:
Buddhism tour by the monk
At Senkoji Temple, a beloved spot in Hirano-ku, learn about the concept of "hell" in Japanese Buddhism from the head priest. Mr. Zane, an American, will also provide insights into Buddhist perspectives in both Japanese and English.
Following this, participate in a calligraphy experience and engage in interactions with the head priest and Mr. Zane.

14:00 PM:
Calligraphy and Interaction with the monk
You will participate in a calligraphy experience with the monk. Unlike typical calligraphy experiences where the aim is to write beautifully, the purpose here isn't about the aesthetics of the characters. For more understanding the hell tour's contents in the first part, we will use calligraphy to deepen our understanding of the importance of life and Buddhist principles within our hearts. The character we will write during this experience is "和" (WA), meaning harmony. The monk will explain why writing "和"(WA) is significant.

14:30 PM:
Interaction with the monk for consultation about your daily anxiety
You're going through busy and challenging times, juggling work, personal life, health concerns, and more. Despite advancements in science and technology, there are many issues that remain unsolved. In such moments, the teachings of Buddhism serve as a solace, offering perspectives that can help alleviate some of your worries. The monk, in particular, is there to elucidate these teachings in a clear and personalized manner.
Take this opportunity to consult the monk about the anxieties and dilemmas you face daily. They will distill a guiding principle into a single character, a kanji, that may serve as a catalyst for resolution.

15:00 PM:
Enjoying interacting with the monk at a local cafe in nostalgic street
You will move on to a cafe to enjoy conversation with us and cozy atmosphere of the cafe. The cafe owner and his wife are very friendly to tourists and have lived in Hirano which has long history more than 300 years for long time. Your order is included in your admission fee.
You can ask anything to us about sightseeing spots where you should visit.

16:00PM
Finishing and Taking photo
We will take you to the station after enjoying the cafe.

<Notes>
Kindly select the "attend" option only if you can join us for the event. If unforeseen circumstances prevent your attendance, we kindly ask you to update your RSVP to "not going." Any cancellations past 18:00 on the previous day of the event will be considered a 'no-show'.
