Local idols:
"Idol" in the context of “Local idol” refers to young male and female performers who are typically known for their singing, dancing, and interaction with fans. They often cultivate a wholesome and cute image and play a significant role in Japanese pop culture. Unlike mainstream idols associated with major talent agencies and enjoying widespread media exposure, Local Idols operate independently or within localized, small-scale agencies. They tend to perform in smaller venues such as live houses or small theaters, fostering dedicated fan bases often referred to as "otaku." Unlike idols performing in large venues or heavily covered by media, Local Idols focus on closer interaction with the audience, primarily through live performances and events. They typically perform 10 to 30 live shows or events per month and dream of eventually performing on larger stages or gaining mainstream media attention. Additionally, post-live events, known as "Tokutenkai" (Meet and greet) where fans can directly interact with idols and take photos, are a notable feature. Due to limited media exposure, it can be difficult for overseas fans to purchase tickets and attend events. Consequently, while these idols may be recognized through anime or online platforms overseas, actual attendance at events is typically low.

Otaku are defined as individuals who "have a strong passion, spend time and money intensely, possess deep expertise and imagination, and engage in activities such as information dissemination and creative endeavors."
