This is a trial class of aikido. The intent of this class is to give you a bite-sized experience of what training in aikido is like. If you'd like to continue, regular classes are available.

Aikido is a Japanese non-competitive martial art that uses throws, joint locks and pins to redirect the force of aggressors. Training in aikido builds confidence, discipline, balance, core strength, and coordination.

If you are looking for a practice that is "softer" than boxing or wrestling, but "harder" than yoga or tai-chi, then aikido might just be for you.

Here are some of the things you can expect during class:

  • Stretching and deep breathing
  • Strength-building exercises, directed mostly at the legs and core
  • Basics of rolling and safe falling
  • Basic aikido technique

Anyone over the age of 13 can participate. Please wear comfortable, stretchy or loose-fitting clothes. No shorts or jewelry please. Plan to train on mats, in bare feet.

When you arrive at Camelot Park Community Center, ask at the front desk where the aikido class is being held.

For more information, see the Northwest Aikido website.
