BACKGROUND: Taiko (Japanese drumming) was traditionally used in Buddhist and Shinto ceremonies, in which only those who were granted special permission by priests could play. In 1951, taiko was adapted to a performance setting. Since then, many groups began to assemble and taiko groups sprouted world wide. OMNY Taiko, is short for "One Miracle in New York" and started in late 2006 when Taiko Master Koji Nakamura came to America to spread this art as part of Shumei's art and beauty initiative. OMNY Taiko's members come from very diverse backgrounds, but we all have a passion for sharing the beauty of taiko with the world. Our motto is: "When we play taiko, we All become One to unite the hearts of All."

We hope the sound of taiko drumming will resonate with your heart as it does with ours.
