Event-Driven Architecture aka. 7 years with Axon Framework
At open200 we started with event based architectures mid 2010's and shortly after we found Axon framework that greatly supports building event based applications and provides most if not all building blocks to write scalable, fast and resiliant event based applications. We start using Axon framework 2016 an will give you insights into our learnings (and failures) over the past seven years of developing event based products.
About the speaker
Gerhard Hipfinger is the CEO and Founder of openFORCE Group, a technology company specializing in IT solutions and services, with a keen interest in event-based architectures and programming in Java, Scala and Kotlin.
Andreas Grill is a software engineer with over six years of hands-on experience working with CQRS and event sourcing by using the Axon framework. He has a passion for writing clean and efficient code and enjoys solving complex problems.
The beauty of the monolith
There probably has not been a bigger buzzword creating waves in development circles quite as the idea of Microservices did over the last 10 years. Netflix somehow made this work and now every ambitious developer is slaying perfectly good monoliths into tiny pieces just to catch a ride on the bandwagon. In his talk, Philipp will explain why Microservices will neither magically erase architecture flaws nor increase the amount of work packages that can be done in parallel. Contrary, the concept rather serves as a catalyst amplifying many of the problems developers were hoping to get rid of. While inexplicably gone out of fashion, Philipp will explain why the monolith still has its right to exist to this day. As Public Enemy said it best back then in 1988: "Don't Believe the Hype".
About the speaker
Philipp Seifert-Kehrer is a Lead Cloud Engineer at Posedio who, throughout his career, has explored many corners of the software landscape, working on projects in major sectors like finance and retail. He's had hands-on experience with everything from legacy systems to the latest tech innovations. Philipp prides himself on being an allrounder who is always keen on finding the most valuable solutions, given any set of circumstances, including time and environment, at any stage of a project. He cringes on the mentioning of 'Developer Experience' and sees the end result as the most important KPI in any software engineering endeavor. In his private life, Philipp enjoys spoiling his cats and he still mourns the day that Monoliths became uncool.
