Movie Description:
“In Bruges” is a 2008 comedy-drama crime film, written and directed by Martin McDonagh. It is his feature-length film debut, although he was already a well established playwright. The film takes place in the picturesque city of Bruges, Belgium, which provides a beautiful backdrop for the story. Since the film's release, many tourists have visited Bruges to experience the city’s unique character.
This fast talking, smart, dark comedy stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two London-based Irish hitmen in hiding. Farrell and Gleeson deliver some of their best work. Also notable is the performance by Ralph Fiennes. The characters in the film are complex and multi-dimensional, which adds depth to the story. It’s well-written and acted, combining dark humor and unexpected plot twists to create an engaging and memorable cinematic experience.
We thought it might be fun to revisit “In Bruges” as Martin McDonagh reunites Farrell and Gleeson 15 years later in the 2022 film, “The Banshees of Inisherin,” currently up for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
If you are considering viewing this film, keep in mind the story is quite dark and there are portrayals of violence on the screen.
You can read more about “In Bruges” in this article. And even more in this article. However, there are some spoilers, so it would be best to watch first and read later.
