Electron framework: securing a cross-platform desktop app on machines you don't control
by Vitaliy Yunikov (Lead engineer @ Quill and Founder of AudioRoute)
Electron is the fastest way to put a web app on the desktop. The moment you ship it, you're running a browser with filesystem access and full OS access on machines you don't control - sometimes behind security policies you aren't even aware of. This talk covers the experience of a team running on tens of thousands of machines daily, across three operating systems, two CPU architectures, and whatever hardware, OS version and security software each user happens to have. It covers two things the documentation doesn't: how to run the application safely - especially when it executes remote code - and how to find out what's actually happening out there, when you have no server logs, no debugger and nobody to ask. All of it gathered from years of production experience, not best-practice lists.
Hope to see you there!
