Apps with DoneJS w/Chasen Le Hara and Live Coding/Docker w/Kelly Andrews

Details
Hey JavaScriptLA fans, our next meetup is upon us!
Our topic will be High-Performance Apps with DoneJS, presented by Chasen Le Hara. DoneJS is an open source JavaScript framework that makes it easy to build high performance, real-time web and mobile applications. It is used to make beautiful, real-time user interfaces that can be exported to run on every platform.

This sentence is wasting your time before you get to useful information. How annoying is that? Annoyed is how your users feel if they can’t see their content immediately while too much JavaScript and CSS downloads too slowly.
This talk shows how the [DoneJS (https://donejs.com/)] framework makes it easy to build fast single page applications that are:
We will discover how DoneJS solves these problems while building a simple real-time chat application.
As a bonus, Chasen will show you how to build the chat application to a mobile and desktop application so all three versions of the app can chat together.

About the presenter:
Chasen Le Hara (@chasenlehara) has a decade’s worth of experience as a web developer and is a core contributor to DoneJS. He currently works as a developer advocate for Bitovi, a JavaScript consulting company known for making great web apps for Walmart and other high-profile companies he can’t talk about.

Building software these days has changed in dramatic ways, increasing the pressures to deliver software at a fast pace. If you aren’t already using test automation and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) in your workflow, then you may be running less efficiently than you realize.
In this talk, Kelly Andrews from Codeship will take an application, Dockerize and run it locally, then test and deploy using Codeship, as well as presenting some best practices around CI/CD. You should walk away with the information you need to switch to a workflow designed for fast delivery.

About the presenter:
Kelly J Andrews (https://twitter.com/settings/account), is a developer advocate, currently working at Codeship. Kelly has been tinkering with computers for over 30 years, using BASIC for the first time at the prime age of 5.
It wasn't until building his first webpage in 1997, and trying out JavaScript for the first time that he found a true calling. Kelly now fights for JavaScript, testable code, and fast delivery.
In his free time, you can find him singing karaoke, performing magic, or cheering for the Fighting Irish.

CodeShip:

Codeship started in 2010 as "Railsonfire" by founders Moritz Plassnig, Manuel Weiss, and Florian Motlik out of the frustration that JenkinsCI was very cumbersome to maintain. Their vision for Railsonfire was to build for the builders by providing a Continuous Integration platform for Rails developers; hosting their code on GitHub and deploying to Heroku. After some positive feedback and initial traction, our co-founders went to Berlin to get more feedback from larger tech companies. They got their first customer in 2012 and were approached shortly after by TechStars Boston. RailsOnFire expanded to more technologies, the company moved to Boston, rebranded to “Codeship”, and the rest was history.

Codesmith is a top-rated coding immersive in the US, teaching computer science, full-stack JavaScript (notably React and Node) and software architecture preparing graduates for mid to senior engineering positions. The course also features preparatory material, extensive hiring preparation, and ongoing support with students’ job searches. To help prepare applicants for their interview, Codesmith offers a series of free weekly classes and lectures (“Introduction to Web Development”, “Javascript - the Hard Parts”, and “How to Get Hired as a Software Engineer” among others).Additionally, Codesmith is committed to strengthening and growing a broad and deep community of software engineers from all backgrounds, and thus offers scholarships for women, minorities, and veterans to help bridge the gap.
