What we’re about

Welcome to the Javela Friends Meetup Group!

Let's meet online to share our experiences, ideas, and suggestions for helping to care for our loved ones as they age, and for helping each other, and ourselves, as we care for them.

Hi, I'm Jim Vlachos. Having helped to care for my grandmother in her later years, and now for my mom, I know how much we can benefit from sharing our experiences and ideas for learning effective ways to help our elderly loved ones to deal with the life changes that come with aging, and also how much we can benefit from helping each other handle the changes in our own lives which come with being their caregivers.

That's why my wife Margaret and I have started this meetup group, and also the Javela Friends online conversation companion service for seniors.

In this group we caregivers will get together to talk about the challenges that we face as our loved ones grow older, and to offer support and advice whenever we can as we share our experiences. Often we run into situations as caregivers which others have already learned how to handle, and we can benefit from each others' wisdom and experience in this group.

Also, as our loved ones get older, whether they live alone or with family, they're not able to get out on their own as much, or sometimes at all, without the assistance of others. And family and friends are often working all day and only home in the evenings. That's why Margaret and I created Javela Friends, to provide seniors with conversation companions and help them stay socially active and cognitively engaged with others.

And let's not forget, being caregivers can be very socially isolating for us as well, as we need to spend more and more time taking care of those who need us. So let's meet up to offer each other support, guidance, and community as we navigate these challenges. And hopefully we'll make some friends in the group as well!
